STAY | Lo Scoglio
Nestled in the rolling hills of Coopers Shoot, Lo Scoglio is more than just a luxury accommodation—it’s a story of heritage, sustainability, and thoughtful design. Created with a deep respect for the land and a vision inspired by their Italian roots, Lo Scoglio seamlessly blends timeless materials, regenerative principles, and a grounding sense of place.
Angelica, Mother of Four, Wife to One – Charlie Arnott, shares the journey behind Lo Scoglio, from discovering the property to crafting a space that honours the history, nature, and art of slow living.Introduce yourself and tell us about your journey leading up to creating LoScoglio.
I feel incredibly honoured to be stewarding four beautiful individuals into adulthood and to be a life partner to the coolest person I know, Charlie Arnott.
Raising a young family has always been my primary focus. We lived in Wategos, right on the waterfront—an incredible location. However, once our son started walking, we knew we needed a yard for him to explore.
Our search led us to a property in Coopers Shoot. The existing house was humble, and we lived in it for two years while carefully planning our design and build. Conscious of our environmental impact, we chose to work within the existing floor plan rather than leaving a large footprint. How did you discover this property in Byron Bay, and what led you to the decision to build there?
Having lived in Byron Bay for many years, we were familiar with the areas we loved most. Coopers Shoot had always been my preferred location. That said, it took four visits before we finally committed. Charlie and I knew that, as custodians of this beautiful land, we had a responsibility to honour its past, present, and future. We were committed to following the same regenerative principles we apply on our farm, ensuring that our approach was both sustainable and respectful.
What inspired the design of Lo Scoglio? What does this design mean to you?
The design of Lo Scoglio tells a story of my heritage. In many ways, I feel as though I have been writing this story my entire life, and bringing it to life was only possible with like-minded collaborators—builders Nic Lenders - Skyline Project,
Designers - Louella Botel-gill and Daniel Mcewan - Tigmi Trading
Having a clear vision of what I wanted, both aesthetically and functionally, was essential to ensuring a harmonious build. My Italian heritage remains my greatest inspiration, and I feel incredibly grateful to be able to express my passion for history and tradition through this space.
What’s your favourite part or feature of Lo Scoglio?
I was deeply passionate about creating a space that honours all the senses. The materials chosen allow one to feel grounded and held, fostering a deep sense of calm, safety, and relaxation. The 200-year-old timbers used for the floors and cabinetry, the stone walls, marble fixtures, and steel elements all contribute to an organic, timeless feel throughout the home.
Three words that best describe Lo Scoglio?
Luxurious. Grounded. Elegant.
What’s next for you and Lo Scoglio?
Lo Scoglio has set the stage for future collaborations, and I see it as just the beginning of the story I want to tell. My goal is to continue creating luxury accommodations that evoke a sense of regeneration, connection, and inspiration.
