STAY | FIVE ACRES
Meet Katie & Rom Lamaro husband & wife team behind the Five Acres, luxury farm-stay accomodation and a soon-to-be event space on Phillip Island, Victoria, Australia.
The couple bought the farm in 2018 and with their 3 children moved to the property with the goal of living a more holistic lifestyle (being closer to nature & growing their own food) whilst fulfilling their dream of creating luxury accomodation.
The property consists of 3 cabins, all with high end finishes and a varying neutral colour palette. Each one includes bespoke timber joinery, a fire, a spacious bathroom with sky-light & an outdoor bath too. The cabins look out to the surrounding farm land and to the ocean beyond. A beautiful place to slow down and tap into nature.
Come read Katie & Rom's story.

Introduce yourself and tell us about your journey leading up to creating Five Acres.
My name is Katie Lamaro, my husband Rom and our three children have lived on Phillip Island for almost 10 years. We purchased Five Acres in 2018 with a view to create a more sustainable life for our family, grow a large portion of our own food, spend more time with our family both work predominantly from home. Both with hotel and hospitality experience along with our love of travel our dream was to open luxury accommodation and we found the perfect spot!
How did you discover Western Port Bay (Phillip Island) and what led you to the decision to build accommodation there?
Rom spent much of his teen years on Phillip Island at their family beach house and always loved the area. We decided to moved to Phillip Island so he could complete a carpentry apprenticeship and the plan was always to move back to Melbourne but we decided to stay as we fell in love with the lifestyle and have never looked back. We love living by the ocean, enjoy growing our own food and spending time with our beautiful farm animals.
What inspired the design of Five Acres?
Rom and I have both travelled extensively and wanted to include all our favourite luxuries and detail into the cabins, we wanted them to be warm and relaxing. We have beautiful views across rolling farmland and out to the ocean so it was important to capture those moments from every part of the cabin. There is a full length sky light over the shower for star gazing and the view from the outdoor bath is stunning!
What’s your favourite part/feature of Five Acres? And what spaces are available to use/rent?
I think my favourite feature of the cabins is the outdoor bath, there are not many places you can look out at grazing Scottish Highland cattle (Rory + Ivy) with a local complementary Gin and tonic on sunset, it is a pretty incredible experience. Currently we have three luxe cabins, sleeping 2 adults per cabin and shortly guests will be able to enjoy the private dining space with friends and a newly renovated Guesthouse.
3 words that best describe Five Acres?
Luxury, bespoke, peaceful.
What’s next for you and Five Acres?
We are very close to launching our new event space which will be available for guests to hire for private dinners and lunches, we also hope to run workshops and wine dinners next year with guest chefs. Our 2 bedroom guesthouse is also due to launch after a small renovation so will be available for guests to stay by the end of October.
No doubt we will continue to find ways to add to our guests experience, we are very passionate and excited to see the last few additions finished!
